While most of America watched the NFL Playoffs this weekend, golf fans everywhere were treated to a season opening treat – The SBS Tournament of Champions from the Plantation Course at Kapalua. Although some of the best players in the world were absent we did get to see Jordan, Dustin, and Jason Day among the field of winners from last season.
2017 promises to be a great year for the PGA Tour. Augusta National, Erin Hills (U.S. Open), Royal Birkdale (The Open Championship), and Quail Hollow (PGA Championship) will host this year’s Majors. Erin Hills and Quail Hollow promise to be great tests as they add their names to the list of Major Host courses.
We’ll find out this year if Tiger Woods is back from his injuries. He tees it up next at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines at the end of January as he looks to re-energize his game and get back into form heading into Augusta in April.
Jason Day enters 2017 as the World’s #1 player with Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson, Henrik Stenson, and Jordan Spieth right on his heels. Will Day be able to fight off the nagging back issues and the list of pros clamoring for his post? Now that DJ has finally won his elusive Major, will he be able to continue to conquer his demons and add to that this year? Can Jordan Spieth rebound from a “disappointing” season in 2016 to regain his form?
The list of players looking to win their first Major has a few less names on it after last year. Rickie Fowler, Patrick Reed, Sergio Garcia, and Hideki Matsuyama hope they can remove their names this year. Matsuyama enters the calendar year on a tear. How long will that last?
As always, the New Year creates hope and promise in our hearts and minds. The 2017 PGA Tour Season is no different. So what do you expect? What are you hoping to see this year? Does Tiger get his stripes back? Will we see a new name at the top? Leave a Comment below and tell us your thoughts!
