I know that the PGA season started back in October, and that there have been 10 tournaments played already – but I’m stuck n the old world – where the season starts in Hawaii with the Tournament of Champions. So with the Sentry Tournament of Champions over, I am excited to see the PGA season begin.
It was fun to see some of the bigger stars show up. Rory made his first appearance in the event, even though he has qualified many times before. DJ, Jason Day, Justin Thomas, Brooks Kopek. They all showed up, and in between great shots, they all sat back and watched Gary Woodland run away from them for 3 days.
Unfortunately Woodland was unable to carry the 54 hole lead through 72 holes – for the 7th time in his career. It all came down to the 18th hole, Woodland needing a birdie to tie Xander Schauffele – who had just finished off a course record tying 62 with a birdie of his own. Woodland missed the green right, and could not get up and down on the Par 5 to force a playoff.
One more week in Hawaii – at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, then back to the mainland for the West Coast Swing. I’m excited – I always am this time of year! Great golf is back, and we’re in for some great tournaments in the coming weeks! I know I’ll be tuned in!
